Apostolic Nuncio appointed as Prefect of the Dicastery for Eastern Church

Pope Francis has appointed His Excellency Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, until now Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, as Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.

Apostolic Nuncio brings Papal Blessings to Residents of Napier Barracks

Archbishop Gugerotti studied Eastern Languages and Sacred Liturgy and was a Professor of Patristics in Eastern Liturgy at the Institute of Ecumenical Studies in Verona from 1981 to 1985.

He was first appointed to the 'Congregation for the Eastern Churches' in 1985, becoming Undersecretary in 1997, whilst also teaching at the Pontifical Oriental Institute.

Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti was appointed as Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain on Saturday, 4 July 2020 by the Holy Father, serving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and residing at the Apostolic Nunciature in Wimbledon, which is located within Southwark.

The Archdiocese has been delighted to welcome him to many events and services and would like to express particular gratitude for bringing Pope Francis'  blessing to those residing in Napier Barracks, and most recently joining the Aylesford Friars to celebrate Mass during the visit of St Bernadette's Relics.

Our prayers go with Archbishop Gugerotti as he prepares to serve the Roman Curia in this important new role.
