The Archdiocese of Southwark is a charitable incorporated organisation, or CIO.

Introduced in 2013. it is a corporate form specifically designed for and available only to charities. Like a charitable company, a CIO must have both members and trustees. CIOs have limited liability and are registered solely with the Charity Commission and are regulated by Charity law alone.

Southwark’s charitable objectives are registered as

“to establish, maintain or advance the Roman Catholic religion in the Diocese by any one or more of the charitable objects promoted or served by the Roman Catholic Church within the Diocese”.
