Eucharist adoration is delighting in the presence of the Lord

Father Oladele Craig shares his love of Eucharistic adoration

Eucharistic adoration is not about “the words you use”, it is the “delight of being” in the presence of the Lord Jesus, explains Father Oladele Craig, the parish priest for St Osmund’s in Barnes.

In an interview with the Archdiocese for the hope in adoration campaign to promote Eucharistic adoration in the Year of Jubilee, Father Oladele highlighted the importance of the Eucharist to the Catholic Church. He said:

“the Eucharist is the identity of the Church. It is Christ himself and without the Eucharist, there is no Church”.

As a parish priest, Father Oladele has been witness to incredible occasions of people gathering to adore the Lord Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist. “What touches you really is the silence”, he said, adding that the most powerful moment is “when you come to the realisation, that yes, he is truly there and he loves me and I can be myself”.

Sometimes people are unsure what to say or do while in Eucharistic adoration, especially when we get distracted or look round and see others who seem to be praying more fervently than themselves. But Fr Oladele has some great advice and reminds us that this “doesn’t matter because you’re in the presence of Jesus and he loves you”. So just “be in the presence of the Lord”, he adds.

Eucharistic adoration is available at St Osmund’s RC Church, Barnes on Fridays at 9am to 10am followed by Mass.
