By coach to Maitland (90 miles north of Sydney)
Arrival, welcome and relax with our host families

DAYS IN THE DIOCESE

Before returning to Sydney for WYD08, we spend a few days
in the Diocese of Maitland and Newcastle to experience
Australian life and culture as well as to get the feel for
the Church in Australia.

Friday, 11th July
A day of social engagement offering help to the local community
by undertaking practical or social tasks

Saturday, 12th July
A cultural and spiritual day
A diocesan festival which includes contributions from the Aboriginal community

Sunday, 13th July
Local hospitality day
Mass in the local parish
A parish BBQ
Perhaps an afternoon excursion to a local place of interest
or a place of natural beauty with the host family

Coach journey to Sydney (3 - 4 hours)
Sightseeing tour of Sydney

a re-enactment of the last hours of Jesus' life

Pilgrimage walk from hotel to Randwick Racecourse (1 - 2 hours)
7:00 - 9:00 pm Evening Vigil with the Pope
Sleep out under the stars at the Southern Cross Precinct
(Randwick Racecourse and Centennial Park)

Sunday, 20th July
9:00 am Papal flyover and motorcade through Southern Cross Precinct
10:00 am Final Mass celebrated by the Pope
The Angelus and announcement of the next WYD host city
12:30 - 5:00 pm Youth Festival events at Southern Cross Precinct
7:30 pm Evening Meal at the Southern Cross Hotel, St Peters

Monday, 21st July
Day trip by coach to the Blue Mountains (about 2 hours SW of Sydney)
travelling over the Silver Pass. Lunch and movie at The Edge Cinema;
visit to Echo Point, The Three Sisters and Featherdale Wildlife Park.
Mass at St Patrick's Church, Sydney
Buffet dinner at South Steyne, Cockle Bay

Tuesday, 22nd July
Morning free for shopping or sightseeing
