For administrative purposes the Southwark Metropolitan Tribunal, the primary function of which is to deal with applications for nullity of marriage, is divided between two areas - South London and Kent. The Tribunal Office for South London is in Southwark. The Kent area has one office, at Chatham, which deals with all Tribunal business in Kent.

This Tribunal was established on 26th November 1980 by the Apostolic Signatura to deal with appeals to Second Instance from the Diocesan Tribunals of the Province of Southwark (The dioceses of Southwark, Portsmouth, Arundel and Brighton, Plymouth).
