Saint Mary Magdalen's School, Brockley

Archbishop Kevin opens and blesses new extension

On Monday, 2nd July 2007, Archbishop Kevin opened and blessed the new extension to St Mary Magdalen's School, Brockley. He was welcomed by Mrs Carmelita Winston, Head Teacher, Father Michael Lovell, Parish Priest and  Dan Mahony, the Chairman of the Board of Governors. The architect, Robert Chesterton, was also present.

The day opened with an assembly of the whole school led by the Infants. Archbishop Kevin then said the prayer of blessing:

All praise to you, heavenly Father,
Lord of all creation:
you have gathered us in this school community
to praise you by our words and works.

Bless + this school which we have built
for the education of our young people.
Bless + our students and teachers,
our parents, governors, employees,
and all who promote Catholic education in our community.

May our youth grow in wisdom, age and grace
before you and all your people.
May this school always be a home of truth and wisdom,
of faith and good will toward all.

Through the prayers of St Mary Magdalen
may this school help our community,
and build your kingdom of justice, light and peace.

Loving Father,
listen to our prayer,
which we offer through Christ our Lord,
in your Holy Spirit:
all glory to you, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Archbishop then cut the ribbon to open the new extension of the school.
