Blessed
Pier Giorgio Frassati

Sunday, 16th January 2011, saw the first meeting of the newly
launched Frassati Society at the Holy Ghost, Balham. This is a
society for young adults combining fellowship, service of the poor
and prayer inspired by the spirituality and life of Blessed Pier
Giorgio Frassati. Twenty-five young adults met for Adoration of
the Blessed Sacrament and Mass, after which the enjoyed a a meal
together. Between courses, Fr Agustin Conesa invited them to go
more deeply into the scriptures and spoke to them about Jesus'
teaching of the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12).
At
his beatification in 1990, Pope John Paul II named Blessed Pier
Giorgio Frassati 'The Man of the Beatitudes' - a model for young
Christian living. Each month as they come together for Mass and
prayer, fellowship, food and formation, members will explore
the richness and beauty of Jesus' teaching as they look at a
different Beatitude.
As they are moved to live the Beatitudes more profoundlly in
their lives, the model of Pier Giorgio Frassati will be an example
of how they can live out this call.

Frassati Society members will be committing to some regular, practical service of the poor. Many are planning to go and help the Missionaries of Charity serve a meal to the homeless on Sunday afternoons.
