"And a cloud came, covering them in shadow: and there came a voice from the cloud, 'This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him.'" (Mark 9:7)
Bishop Patrick celebrated the noon Mass at the annual Caribbean Pilgrimage to Aylesford, organised by the South London Caribbean Catholic Association, on 6th August. The day was also held in memory of Father Charles Gaillard, whom the Bishop said 'is dear to many of your hearts'.
About Father Charles Gaillard
In his homily Bishop Patrick said that it was by listening to Christ in
prayer that we are given the strength to follow him and to cope with any
suffering that life might impose. He spoke of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, who
promoted the 'prayer of listening to God' both in the Scriptures and in the
experiences of daily life. Bishop Patrick concluded that 'the value of prayer is
hearing what God says to us'.
After a picnic lunch, pilgrims took part in a Rosary Procession. This was followed by a reflection on the Transfiguration of Jesus by Jon Dal Din, the Caribbean Chaplain. The day ended with Benediction.
