Anniversary of St John Vianney Church

Fiftieth Anniversary of Bexleyheath's parish church

Archbishop Kevin celebrated Mass at St John Vianney, Bexleyheath, to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the church.

The parish was founded from Crayford in 1933 and served by Fr James Malone and the clergy of Crayford. Fr James Austin was the first resident priest in 1942 and raised funds for a new church, similar in design to the church he had seen at Rottingdean, Sussex. The new church was opened on Friday, 8th May 1959 by Bishop Cyril Cowderoy and consecrated on 28th May 1975 by Archbishop Cowderoy.
