Archbishop Kevin wrote to the people of the Diocese on 11th April 2006

 

My dear People,

It is very fitting that it should be at Eastertide that we mourn the death of Bishop Charles Henderson. He died at the beginning of Holy Week having lived a life of exemplary service and dedication to God and to the Church.

His contribution to the life and world of our diocese and of the Catholic Church in England and Wales has been outstanding. I think we can be proud that in Southwark we have been blessed with such an indefatigable apostle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Many of you will have known him well and will have your own special memories. Let us pray for the repose of his soul and entrust him to the Risen Lord with gratitude and confidence.
